I can eat this now I’m going to gym later….
Sound familiar?? We’ve all done it
You've started your new exercise program full of excitement, enthusiasm and intention. After a few weeks comes the lull quickly followed by excuses….
“ If only I didn’t like chocolate”
“ Its my addictive personality, I just need to……. “
“ You don’t understand, I NEEEEEED to nibble on something when I’m relaxing”
You get the drift! We are absolute masters at justification and our fear of change lets us hold on to the justification.
Working it off later stores your fat!
It’s unfair I know, but really… It doesn’t work!
Your hormones don’t allow it!
‘Thank goodness’ I hear you say! ‘Its my hormones and not me’……Wrong!
You could think of the hormones as kids in a playground. When everyone is nice and sharing they play together beautifully but when this equilibrium is upset all hell breaks loose!
MP has been designed to create order in the playground!
Two of the hormones playing in our playground body are insulin and cortisol. These hormones play a big role in how we store and burn fat and the key to getting these guys to play nicely is in your food choices. You can eat a calorie restrictive diet, feel hungry, lack energy become grumpy and STILL store fat! And let’s face it, how long before you cave, have a feast of pizza, chips and chocolate followed by a massive guilt trip?!
Because our hormones respond to every little sneaky bite and set up a biological catalyst which will prevent you from burning fat.
When insulin is lowered in the body, we burn fat to produce energy. If our insulin is high, the pathway to using fat for energy is blocked. So, you can eat 1200 calories of insulin triggering foods on your restrictive diet and rather than using fat the body will slow your metabolism to conserve energy.
Cortisol, the ‘stress’ hormone also plays a role, it makes the body more resistant to insulin so the body produces more to make up for it. With the insulin level high the cycle kicks off again and fat is stored. To top this cycle off, spiking an dipping insulin levels places the body under stress again triggering the fat storage cycle.
We need to keep insulin levels stable through wise food choices. When you’re tempted to go for the chocolate, cake, white bread and Nutella think of the boom gate coming down on the fat blasting pathway.
Going to do a bit more exercise is not going to lift that boom gate! It stays down until the insulin levels drop.
